What are my work visa options?
Employment Pass (EP) for employee and Dependant Pass (DP) for dependents.
What is the typical timeline for the immigration process?
Pre-arrival: 2 to 4 months.

Post-arrival: 1 to 2 days.
How long does it take to collect information and submit the application?
It depends how soon the employee and client will provide the information and documents. Once received, within 2 working days we will submit the application.
What is the application processing time?
2 weeks from the date of submission at the Authorities.
What is my duration of stay?
The employment pass is issued with an initial validity of 2 or 5 years depending on category. Renewals are also possible to extend these validities.
How soon can employees start working?
Within 1-2 days of arrival.
Is there a quota per location for the number of transferees that can apply?
Yes. It varies based on the employer, timeframe, and entity. It can be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Is there expedited processing available for applications? Are there extra fees?
No, there is no express service at this moment.
What are the requirements for permanent residency?
  • Live in Malaysia for at least five years.
  • Receive certification from the relevant agency in Malaysia.
  • Obtain recommendation from a relevant agency in Malaysia.
  • Receive a Certificate of Good Conduct from your country of origin. 
  • Worked in Malaysia for at least three years in a company.
  • Sponsorship by a good-standing Malaysian citizen.

Will documents require translation, apostilles, and/or legalization?
  • Must be officially translated to English (if not originally in English) and get attested by the Malaysian Embassy in country of residence. 
  • If Certificate is already in English, it must also be officially attested by the Malaysian Embassy in country of residence.
What is the requirement for the application location?
Employees need to apply for an e-Visa online at their home country location. The eVisa application must be applied by using the approval letter Reference Number issued from Malaysia (pre-arrival) to provide copy eVisa once obtained and to provide copy of confirmed flight ticket to Malaysia once available.
Is set-up/sponsorship registration needed for transferees by their employers?
Yes.

When do I renew my work visa?
Prior 3 months from the permit’s expiration date.
Can dependents work under the registration process? If so, do they have limitations and requirements to do so?
  • Spouses and partners can access employment but with some restrictions. There are conditions which need to be met in order to access employment.
  • Family members other than the spouse or partner do not have access to employment.
Are same-sex spouses considered dependents?
No.
What, if any, deregistration requirements are required?
Work and residence permits must be formally cancelled prior to the employee’s final departure.
What are the red flags and/or special criteria?
  • Salary-based categories.
  • Client sitework not permitted.
  • Once application is submitted, travel to Malaysia is not permitted until approval letter is issued.
  • Local contract required.
